I could have used the headline “Spitzer let off the hook;” but, it didn’t seem as much fun. Those of you reading my blog for the past year (if there is anyone reading my blog) know that I’ve been extremely critical of former NY AG-turned-GOV Eliot Spitzer, whose hypocrisy was revealed by a prostitution sting earlier this year.
US Attorney Michael Garcia today announced his decision not to pursue criminal charges against Spitzer. “Eliot Spitzer has acknowledged to this Office that he was a client of, and made payments to, the Emperors Club VIP. Our investigation has shown that on multiple occasions, Mr. Spitzer arranged for women to travel from one state to another state to engage in prostitution. After a thorough investigation, this Office has uncovered no evidence of misuse of public or campaign funds. In light of the policy of the Department of Justice with respect to prostitution offenses and the longstanding practice of this Office, as well as Mr. Spitzer’s acceptance of responsibility for his conduct, we have concluded that the public interest would not be further advanced by filing criminal charges in this matter,” Garcia said.
“I appreciate the impartiality and thoroughness of the investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and I acknowledge and accept responsibility for the conduct it disclosed. I resigned my position as Governor because I recognized that conduct was unworthy of an elected official. I once again apologize for my actions,” Spitzer said. Spitzer, the 54th governor of New York, officially resigned on March 17 after he was found to be a client of the Emperors Club VIP that was busted days before.
As the state’s Attorney General, Spitzer earned a reputation for his crusades against corruption in the insurance industry and then against largely unproven payola allegations in the radio and record industry.
Spitzer has been “cleared.” It’s unfortunate the same can’t be said for the numerous radio programmers and record promoters indicted by his witch hunt in years earlier. However, karma does seem to have a way of eventually leveling the field. Let’s hope she do so quickly in this case.

Spitzer was about the bust the scam going on in Wall Street and the White House. He would have prevented the Stock Market Crash and the fall of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac but the White House and Media went full steam ahead to stop him. The American people brought the lies hook line and sinker and millions of Americans lost their homes, jobs and life savings. Spitzer is a brillant lawyer who figured out the scam but was pushed like Bill Clinton on personal matter. I have so much respect for Mr. Spitzer as he did the peoples work but got kicked out because the crooks were running the country. President Obama would be wise to use Spitzer on his team to clean up the corruption from the Govenment. We have many lawyers but few as brillant as Spitzer. Americans should remember no one is perfect and their personal lives aren’t part of their jobs. We watched the Media give Mark Foley a pass as he was selecting kids to molest, Larry Craig looking for sex in the men’s room and David Vitters who still hires prosituties while holding office. Spitzer sex life didn’t effect the job he was doing and who he has sex with is not our concern but his wifes. But we see how well the Media worked with the Bush Propaganda Dept and now we’ve paying for it.
Spitzer, Pat Fitzgerald and Randall Samborn should be appointed to top jobs in the Obama/Biden Administration for fast recovery to bring back Lady Justice for us all.
Soooo not shocking
